My husband and I booked a private tour with Luciano to tour Herculaneum. Luciano is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about Herculaneum and it was an amazing tour. I recommend him for anyone who is interested in having an in depth tour of this amazing archeological site! Luciano also arranged transportation for the day and accompanied us to the base of Vesuvius so my husband and I could walk up the volcano and do the tour at the top through the park service. Luciano was also very flexible and dropped us off at a place of our own choosing in the city of Naples instead of the cruise port where he picked us up. We had a wonderful day in Naples and we owe it all to Luciano! Thank you!!

In April 2026 my husband and our friends were visiting Italy from North America. Having seen the Pompeii ruins some years ago we were interested in seeing Herculeum. We had a wonderful tour of Herculeneum with Luciano in May, 2016. Luciano is extremely knowledgeable of Herculeneum, its history and remains. He is lively and brings the subject matter to life. We were placed with Luciano through a larger tour company. Despite the size of the group, approx. 15 people, he connected well to all of us in an engaging manner.

Dr Luciano Leone was recommended to me and I’m so glad I booked our family Herculean tour with him! His insight and insider knowledge kept everyone interested and entertained for the 3 hour tour. He involved the whole family and was also sensitive to my 12 year old granddaughter’s Asperger condition. I highly recommend his tour to anyone visiting Herculean!

We got a short private tour of Herculaneum. We were very impressed by his making it interesting with his vast knowledge and self-effacing attitude. He made it really fun. Really really enjoyed it. Money well spent. Very good English and communication.

I do a lot of these Roman history tours around the world, and I have been to Herculaneum before, but Luciano made this tour so fresh, so fun! His passion and laughter are infectious. What a joy it was, abs the only way to see these sites.

Luciano kept us riveted the whole time. His experience, depth of knowledge and insight was really apparent and he was very amusing.The tour was only two hours so had to be selective and he managed that balance extremely well. We would happily have a repeat session but unfortunately have to return home.

Private tour with my wife and 2 girls ( 8 & 13 ) was extremely knowledgeable , very friendly, really involved the kids and explained things we would never have known without him ! Tips voor wanneer je per trein naar Ercolano gaat :

⁃ Neem de stoptrein richting Sorrento en niet de snelle versie, want dan raas je Ercolano voorbij

⁃ Ben op tijd op centraal station ook wanneer je al toegangskaartjes voor Ercolano, de Vesuvius of Pompeii hebt want je treinkaartje moet je aanheft zelfde loket kopen en 15 minuten in de wachtrij ben je zo kwijt

Wij moesten vanuit de sneltrein overstappen naar de stoptrein om naar Ercolano te gaan. Gelukkig was de geboekte gids via get your guide makkelijk te bereiken en werd onze tour omgeboekt zodat we 1 uur later de hele tour konden meelopen. Gids Luciano Leone was fantastisch! Hij vertelt mooi, levendig en vol passie. Met deze tour/gids loop je ruim 2 uur door de highlights van de opgravingen heen. Bij elke stop houdt Luciano een mooi verhaal zodat de ruimte gaat ‘leven’ en het verhaal blijft hangen. Denk aan ‘those idiots’ de aardbeien, de wijnbar met muntcheck, de prachtige mozaïeken vloeren, fresco’s (beiden origineel!) en de pendula, het verhaal van de boot, het goud in het lelijke museum, de toiletten met uitzicht op de golf van Napels, de 5 lagen fundering onder de wegen het ‘geld stinkt niet’’ verhaal. Jammer dat de ‘wasmachine’ aan de dames werd gelinkt- .Een bezoek aan Ercolano is zeker aan te raden en als je de kans krijgt om met Luciano mee te lopen dan heb je echt een leuke tour!

Dr. Luciano Leone accompanied us to Pompeii and Herculaneum. He was so knowledgeable, explaining the history and the lifestyle of the inhabitants, the methods of site excavation and artifact recovery and the significant differences between the 2 sites. We learned so much and enjoyed his wonderful explanation – and particularly his flip book that showed the spots we visited as they are now, and as they were in 79AD! He also had examples of some of the items that we observed, such as the coins. We would never have had such an amazing experience without his narrative! Many, many thanks!

Visiting Herculaneum was truly one of the most impressive experiences we’ve ever had. It’s mind-blowing to think that the vibrant frescoes, well-preserved structures, and original city colors have survived for more than 3,000 years. The site is a treasure trove of history, and I cannot recommend enough doing a guided tour to fully appreciate its depth and significance.

Last year, in August of 2023, my Daughter and I had the pleasure of partaking in a ‘group tour’ with Luciano as our guide. I was so impressed, that when I had the opportunity to go back with my wife in September of 2024, we hired Luciano as our personal tour guide for both Herculaneum and Pompeii. Let me tell you, it was the BEST tour I’ve EVER had! Hands down. His knowledge, passion and inside understanding of both sites were unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before on any tour. Not only was he engaging, he went above and beyond to ensure we had access and knowledge to things that MOST people do not get to see. He painted a perfect picture that allowed us to see how life was 2000 years ago! He made us feel very welcome and took extra good care of us throughout the day. If you are planning a trip to either one of these sites (or both), you would be remised if you did not reach out to him to be your guide! You will NOT be disappointed! Thank you Luciano for making this a once in a lifetime vacation! I plan on keeping in touch and spreading the word on your behalf.

La Visita ad Ercolano, che rispetto ad altri siti sembra appena lasciata dagli abitanti, “siamo usciti ma poi torniamo” è stata indimenticabile grazie alla guida di Luciano. Appassionato, competente e trascinante.

In una rilassante settimana in costiera Amalfitana siamo riusciti a ritagliarci un breve spazio culturale per visitare gli scavi di Ercolano.

Sicuramente senza la presenza di una guida preparata e appassionata come Luciano la visita non avrebbe avuto lo stesso valore.

Il sito e’ molto interessante e ben conservato, però non offre un percorso guidato valido, pertanto consiglio a tutti di farsi portare in giro da una guida come Luciano, che non vi darà soltanto informazioni di carattere storico, ma vi saprà raccontare aneddoti, curiosità sulla Ercolano del 1 secolo d.c. e anche della Ercolano di oggi.
